UWA INDIAN OCEAN MARINE RESEARCH CENTRE OPENS
Construction has been completed on the University of Western Australia’s new $62 million Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC), marking the eighth building developed by BGC Construction for UWA.
The centre was built on the University’s Crawley campus, and will be used to support Australia’s contribution to international marine research through collaborative research partnerships and education.
Researchers, technicians and post-graduate students will have access to flexible wet and dry laboratories, collaborative work stations, outdoor undercover field staging and a multi-purpose lecture theatre.
BGC Construction worked closely with UWA to ensure the building met high standards of sustainability, including climate-responsive design and use of recycled materials and energy efficient fixtures, to extend the life of the building and reduce ongoing running costs.
